About Elyse

Biography

Elyse Skye Ricketts, a Toronto-born artist, navigates the vibrant realms of oil and acrylic paint in her multidisciplinary artistic journey. Currently based in Vaughan, Ontario, she is immersed in her pursuit of a BFA in Drawing & Painting at OCAD University, where she also explores the intricate intersection of textiles through a minor in Material Art & Design. Through her canvas, she weaves a narrative that reflects on self autonomy and the challenges regarding self identity.

Her Work

Elyse’s subject matter explores the intricate facets of femininity, mental health, and the tumultuous journey from adolescence to adulthood. Her work often juxtaposes the delicate, playful elements reminiscent of innocence with the unsettling, grotesque, and uncanny. This intentional duality becomes a visual language, a means to address and reflect upon more mature and nuanced aspects of existence.

Through this exploration, Elyse invites viewers to engage with the paradoxes inherent in the human experience. It is within the collision of innocence and discomfort that her work seeks to initiate conversations about the complexities of self-discovery, within a world of uncertainty.
